We recommend the "Chrome" web browser.
Commonlit is a freely accessible collection of fiction and non-fiction content, intended to provide guided reading and extended reading activities for students in years 3 to 12. The texts include poems, short stories, fables, folktales, myths, news, speeches, memoirs, essays, informational texts, opinion pieces and text sets (related content for popular titles).
There is a generic library account that staff can use, but teachers can also easily create their own account. It is a simple matter for a teacher to set up a class and provide the class code and a link to the website via a blog. Staff then allocate texts to the class and they can annotate the chosen texts with instructions for the class. All feedback and assessment can be handled within the website.
Simple instructions are available from this blog post. There are also a series of webinars (all recorded) and videos on YouTube, for any interested staff.
Texts can be allocated to a whole class or to different students. In my experience, a guided reading activity, followed by the comprehension questions (all completed online) takes most of one 50 min. period.
