The Amazon rainforest is the world's largest tropical rainforest.  It grows in the top half of South America in the Amazon River Basin and covers nearly half the continent.  Can you find the continent of South America on the map above?  Where is Australia?

South America is the fourth largest continent in land area. There are 12 countries in South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Can you find these countries on the map of South America below?  The dotted lines mark the boundaries of each country.  Which country looks biggest to you?  Have you found the Amazon Basin and all the rivers which flow into the Amazon River?
