WRITING GUIDE

The "Outline" method of note taking

This method is great for students who thrive on structure and simplicity and prefer to organise information.

This method is based on hierarchy and it uses headings and bullet points to organise information. It works well when the information has a clear and predictable structure, like in a textbook.

It allows you to easily see related points and their importance, at a glance. However, it can be tricky to order your notes like this in a fast-paced lecture.

Process:

1. Begin with the high level headings.

2. Under each heading, indent and add subheadings or subtopics.

3. Each level of information moves slightly to the right. Add supporting facts last.

4. Leave space to add more information under the subheadings.
