Mother and Daughter by Gary Soto
Mrs. Moreno helps her daughter, Yollie, get a dress for the school dance, even though she has very little money. When it doesn’t work out as planned, Mrs. Moreno makes up for it by using her emergency money to buy Yollie a new outfit.
