About Follett & Destiny Library Manager

Follett Destiny Library Manager is a complete library management system that allows librarians and administrators keep thorough, real-time track of a library’s inventory and media assets and gives students a fun means of discovery and reading.

Differences in Library Management Systems

AccessIt . . .

1. . . 'autosaves' on most screens.

2. . . requires a 'Client' to be added to a device so library staff can manage the collection and circulate resources.

3. . . OPAC uses the data from the 'Client' but it requires a web browser.

4. . . Users can only access support and training by using a special account on the AccessIt Customer portal.

5. . . Although some customizing is possible, the Accessit OPAC has only one user interface.

By contrast, Destiny . . .

1. . . Requires any changes to be manually saved by selecting the  button. Major requests, like record deletion, will often require confirmation.

2 & 3. . . Provides both the management and user interfaces in the same software.  Destiny is totally web based, and can be accessed from anywhere a WiFi signal is available.

4. . . Both support and training videos are available from the classic interface, once a staff member has logged in.  Also, explanations are available throughout the software, providing clues to the available actions. These can be recognised by a '?' symbol.

5. . . Currently there are 3 different user interfaces: Classic; Destiny Discover & Quest.  The interface that is used depends on the settings for each 'access' level.

BEST PRACTICE: When using the Classic interface for circulation or cataloging, don't open Destiny on more than one tab at a time on the same web browser. This will ensure the accuracy of the data. If you would like to work on resources, with circulation on standby: use two different browsers (i.e. "Circulation" on Chrome plus "Catalog" on Safari).
