The series was created for television in 1992 by Australia’s state-owned and funded national public broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, in conjunction with a number of universities, education entities and individual contributors. It was screened on a regularly repeated cycle.
A companion book of the same name evolved simultaneously but does not follow the series episode by episode. It was first published in 1992, edited by Gillian Whitlock and David Carter.
