Open Educational Resources

There is a worldwide movement to eliminate the educational divide: the gap between those who have access to high-quality education and those who do not.  One way to do this is to make educational resources freely available on the web. This then creates the problem of finding all these quality materials at the point of need.  Introducing the OER aggregator: a website that collects related items of content and display or links to them.

Libraries support initiatives from around the world to bring education to all those who desire it.

Featured Aggregators:

SCOOTLE OER

Scootle, the Australian national portal for digital teaching and learning resources, now has over 1600 resources that are licenced under Creative Commons (CC), with further resources being added over time. These resources are freely available from Scootle’s home page for all users.

Curriki

Curriki is a database of educational content, provided by educators, learners and committed education experts to benefit teachers, parents and students globally. Curriki’s mission is to eliminate the Education Divide – the gap between those who have access to high-quality education and those who do not – in the U.S. and worldwide.

OER Commons

OER Commons offers over 160,000 OER easily searchable by refinable topics including subject areas, education levels, material type and media formats for all levels of education. OER Commons contains resources suitable for K-12 schooling and a search can be limited by the education level and subject.

Learning Registry

The learning registry is a new approach to capturing, connecting and sharing data about learning resources available online with the goal of making it easier for educators and students to access the rich content available in our ever-expanding digital universe. It is a joint effort of the US Department of Education and the US Department of Defense.
